Brandi Chastain Series Part 2 Reach Up!

[tweetmeme]

Brandi Chastain shares impacting others, specifically young girls with Reach-Up!, her foundation to enrich the lives of females through sports. Great philosophy to follow for coaches, teachers and parents as well as kids.
Watch what she says about helping others think about what they want in life. She doesn’t just preach or offer advice or ask that lousy question, “What do you want to be when you grow up/” It is something far more powerful and personal.

Go to Brandi’s site- www.brandisworld.com and check it out. Cool resources for players!

Thanks for tweeting, liking and sharing and telling your whole team to check this out!

Soccer Player Addiction

[tweetmeme]
Soccer Player Addiction is serious and needs to be dealt with. Beware, many truths come to us wrapped up in humor. Since this realization, I have been a better communicator about what I value and what is important to me. I no longer sneak in a soccer sesh. I schedule it. Just like my skiing. Get honest and be upfront with what your needs are with your sport. Plan to get active. Don’t just do it if the time allows for it.

Thanks for sharing this and liking it and leaving cool comments. What is your guilty pleasure that you shouldn’t be feeling guilty about? Happy summer! Don’t let it end!

Soccer Player Addictions Are Real!

Best Pull-Up, Chin-Up Exercise

[tweetmeme]

Soccer players and skiers need The Best Pull-Up, Chin-Up Exercise. So do skeet-shooters.
If you do your chin-ups slowly and when you reach the top of your pull, bring up your knees to your chest, you will feel it. You will feel like you are exerting yourself way more than by just doing a normal chin-up. You will be throwing in your core. This saves time and increases stamina and makes people want to put $5 bills in your bathing suit rather than the usual $1 that other people get.
Have fun with this. Do 3 sets of your max and keep track of how many more you can do every time you do it.

tweet and share this. I can’t promise you but there is the possibility of soccer players and skiers sending you $5 bills in the mail after you do tweet, share and “like” this post. What the heck. Try it!

Laird Hamilton’s Pilates Ball Exercise

[tweetmeme]

Soccer Players and Skiers and ping-pong players! Laird Hamilton teaches this in his awesome book, A Force of Nature. Your legs are gonna love this. Stand on a pilates ball and get your balance. Laird Hamilton describes how you must work up to the point where you can just jump up there. I demonstrate how you do it with a few layers of safety, with a railing and a chin-up bar. Your balance and core gets a great hammering here. This is great for enhancing your proprioception.

Raise a Skier and Soccer Player Edith Thys Morgan

[tweetmeme]

A skier and soccer player have huge commonalities. Muscle groups, mindset instinct… The list is too long to rattle off. I’d rather make reference of a sweet article that Edith Thys Morgan wrote for the Ski Magazine Noovember 2010 issue. It was “The Family Issue.” With all the things going on in my family with a 2-year old and a new morn, this issue is the one that has never rotated out of the bathroom. It’s pages are wrinkled and warped and permanently curled backward and dog-eared. I will have to wash my hands in a few minutes after perusing it yet again. I love the things in life that are universally true and their facts can be applied to numerous things. Hence this awesome soccer player and skier blog.
Here is what Edith Thys Morgan, former U.S. Olympian has to say about raising her children to love skiing so that they can have a “Skiing Family.” As you read this, substitute the word “skiing,” for your favorite discipline to get what you need out of this.

If you do what she does, you will have an “ahhhhh-moment” where all your efforts pay off and you can have the life you have imagined, from then on.- Check this out…!

1. Be cheerful in the process your teaching. When kids sense frustration in you, they hone in for the kill like sharks do with blood in the water. Keep it fun and never let on that you would rather be doing anything else like ripping 3 feet of new pow.
“Rolling around in the snow, making snowballs, watching chipmunks- As long as it was done with ski boots on, it counted as a ski day.”

2.Bribery Works! Fill your pockets with bite-sized treats to stave-off melt-downs. Gummi Bears, M & M’s Tootsie Rolls.. they work great and a cherry cough-drop will work in a pinch.

3. Limit the options. Keep it pleasant but autocratic with “either-or” choices rather than “yes or no” options. Example: “do you want to put on your left or right boot first?” as opposed to, “Do you want to put on your boots now?”

4. Used is Useful! Hand-me-down gear with the names of older cousins or siblings on them are cool. These kids look up to their older counter parts and they appreciate being able to ride “So-and-so’s” old skis.

5. Know when to quit. Stop when the kids say “stop,” or you know they have had enough. You are much more likely going to be able to get them out skiing again if their most recent memory was not a battle over it.

Is this some sweet, simple truth for you? I hope you think so.
Don’t just wait to play soccer or for the snow to start falling to apply it with your soccer player or skier. Pick a couple of these to start with your family members/students today.

Edith’s “AHHHHH-moment” was when her whole family was on the lift and everybody was smiling.

Plus, please tweet and share this and “like” it and comment. There are starving kids in Africa that can’t ski or play soccer so don’t waste this opportunity to share!

I also want to say Thank You to Atomic for helping me to roll around in the snow, make snowballs, watch chipmunks- As long as I do it with Atomic ski boots on!
You guys are awesome!

2011 MLS All-Star Game V. Manchester United

[tweetmeme]

20ll MLS All-Star Team: Does the U.S. soccer player suck so bad that Manchester United should spank them 4-0? Well, here is the nitty gritty 2 minute rant that is some cold truth. It is about hunger and focus. Shoot, if Kyle Beckerman, a white guy with dreadlocks is on the team, right away, I see a focus issue. First off, I have only love for my “W.A.S.P.-afarian” brothers and sisters. I just think that a white dude with dreads has other things goin on in his life like perhaps bong-hits, kind veggie burritos and waiting for a miracle concert ticket. As an opposing player, they don’t intimidate me and make me think that they have more of the will to win than I do. Just sayin. I am leavin my prejudices out there. Bob Marley was a soccer player. but he was known for his music. If you are going to be truly great and a master at a sport and beat Manchester United at their game, you have to be single-minded from an early age.
more rants in this video.

Here’s the highlight reel.

Soccer Player Success Isaac Camaro

Soccer Player, Isaac Camaro, was not born a badass. Badasses are MADE, not born and they are maintained, too. He tells you what to do as am member of the “over-30-with-kids-club,” to keep fit and agile on the field and feeling and performing your best. He also gives a diet tip that is simple and important to follow. Isaac is straight out of Folsom, not far from the prison walls. Consider this your “soccer-fitness-get-out-of-jail-free-card.” Look below for his Fish Taco recipe!

Isaac’s Badass Fish Taco Recipe

1 Prepare the salsa. Either use store bought or make your own.

2 Prepare the cabbage and avocado. Thinly slice cabbage. Put in a small serving bowl. Sprinkle with cider vinegar (about a Tbsp) and salt (about a tsp). Mix in the vinegar and salt. Peel avocado and remove seed. Chop and reserve for later.

3 Heat the tortillas. Unless you have made fresh tortillas from scratch, you will need to soften them somehow. One way to easily soften and heat a tortilla to simply heat it in the microwave for 20-25 seconds on high heat, on top of a napkin or paper towel to absorb the moisture that is released. We often will heat two tortillas at once in the microwave, heating them for a total of 40 seconds.

Another way is to heat a well seasoned (black) large cast iron skillet to medium heat. Add a teaspoon of oil to the pan or spread a half a teaspoon of butter on one side of one tortilla. Place tortilla in the pan (butter side down if you are using butter). As the tortilla sizzles, flip the tortilla with a spatula so that the other side gets some of the oil or butter from the pan. Continue to flip every 10-30 seconds until the tortillas begins to develop air pockets, about a minute. If the pan begins to smoke, lower the temperature. You can skip the butter or oil if you wish and just heat the tortillas up on the skillet without them. We have found that the flavor of packaged tortillas benefits from heating them with a bit of oil.

Remove the tortilla from the pan and place it folded on a plate. If the pan is large enough you can prepare two or more tortillas at once. Continue until all the tortillas (estimate 3 per person) are cooked. Set aside.

4 Cook the fish. (White fish) Soak the fish fillets in cold water for at least one minute. Pat dry with a paper towel. Heat a large stick-free skillet to medium high heat. Add a couple of teaspoons of olive oil to the skillet. Place fish on skillet. Cooking time depends on the thickness of the fillets. A thin fillet may take only one minute on each side to cook. A thicker fillet may take a couple of minutes. Fish should be still barely translucent when cooked. Break off a piece and test if you are not sure. Do not overcook the fish. Remove from pan when done to a separate plate. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

5 Assembly. I think tacos are best when you assemble them yourself. Place the plate of tortillas, the plate of fish, the salsa, the cabbage, and the avocados on the table and let everyone assemble their own.

Yield: Serves four.

Soccer Player!

Soccer Players! Do you know what futsal is? I didn’t know either. It is mini-soccer, basically. It is indoor-soccer but like on a basketball court-sized field, where the ball can go out-of-bounds.
Bruce Backman- the Del Campo High School(Sacramento/Carmichael, CA) Girls soccer coach, is putting on a tournament. It is April 1,2 and 3rd at Del Campo High School.
If you have a Under-10 through Under-19 boys or girls team and you can make it. You are IN!
Cost is $150 per team. Just call it “mini-soccer,” would ya?! It will eliminate the question that everybody, including myself, ask Coach Bruce Backman.- “What the heck is futsal?”

By the way, I played Calcetto in Italy. “Calcetto” just means, “mini-soccer” in Italian. no confusion.
